smaller, because the vein contracts and there is no blood flowing
through it. This is what a varicose vein looks like after it is removed
by phlebectomy. The needle points to the ballooning of the vein
(dilatation). This commonly occurs just after the valve, which is not
functioning properly. The bulges you see under the skin, in many
instances are the dilated areas the needle is pointing to.
